GauchoSpace is UCSB’s learning management system, based on the Moodle software platform. GauchoSpace provides a rich set of features such as tools for faculty/student communication via email and discussion forums, shared files and links, online assignments, quizzes, grades, and portals to other course-based services. GauchoSpace supports a variety of instructor and TA roles and uses enrollment information to grant access to course materials.

Designed intentionally to serve as a gateway to related instructional tools, GauchoSpace includes utilities for online office hours and chatting, access to lecture-capture videos, instructional material repositories, "virtual labs" (remote software access), and various discipline-specific tools (e.g., WeBWorK for math problem sets). Collaborate invests in hardware, software, and personnel to support the performance and reliability of GauchoSpace, enabling its expansion.

GauchoSpace Support

Collaborate provides a range of support services to help instructors in their use of GauchoSpace, including drop-in support, as well as online help documentation and email support.

Online support: problem resolution is available online via the LSIT Help Center

Drop-in support: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Collaborate Faculty Resource Center (Kerr Hall 1110). Outside of those hours, please send in a help ticket to make an appointment.

GauchoSpace Training: please see the GauchoSpace Orientation page for more information.*

*Note: Instructors are no longer required to complete a GauchoSpace orientation before creating their course site(s), although it is highly suggested.

GauchoSpace Roadmap and Updates

GauchoSpace runs on a version of the open-source software Moodle, which releases major updates every six months, as well as bimonthly releases for application changes, bugs, and security fixes. We strive to stay on a stable, secure, yet up-to-date version of the software, while accomodating for custom applications and changes to benefit the UC Santa Barbara community.

GauchoSpace Showcase Sites and Special Projects

Learn more about how GauchoSpace can be used to support student learning by exploring our GauchoSpace showcase sites.

Collaborate staff are available to provide additional support for GauchoSpace course sites that can be used to illustrate the effective use of available tools to other instructors. If you would like to explore this possibility, please describe your instructional goals and proposed methods on the Help Request Form. Collaborate encourages coordination with the Office of Instructional Consultation for these efforts.
