Campus Office of Software Licensing

The Campus Office of Software Licensing (COSL) coordinates site licenses and volume purchases of specialized software to provide discounted pricing. Volume licenses are negotiated either independently within our office or in coordination with other UC campuses via the UC-Technology Acquisition Support (TAS) group. COSL does not provide procurement services for single purchases of specialized software titles; COSL handles software purchase agreements only if they reach a scale by which significant volume discounts are available. Lending Library

The COSL media lending library, provides media for users to borrow. Standard software titles purchased through COSL, as well as the Gateway e-Procurement system, are available. This allows campus users who purchase licenses, an option for installing their purchased software. An order number for the license purchase is required in order to borrow the media.

Instructions for Borrowing Media

  • Using only your UC Santa Barbara uMail address, include the product name and your order number.
  • You will receive a confirmation response with instructions for media checkout.
  • Please read the complete email you receive in  order to confirm when and where the media will be available for you to pick up. Media checkout is scheduled once a day.
  • Media is to be returned within 24 hours of checkout, some exceptions may apply.

Software Downloads

A limited number of  special software titles are availalbe for download, once a valid license has been purchased and you have received a license code. The software is available at the campus ftp site.

Software Purchasing Information

Software Depot online software order management system was provided by the Campus Office of Software Licensing, until February 1, 2013. Software Depot is no longer available for placing software orders.

Please use the campus Gateway e-Procurement system, for your purchases.

How do I place an order with the reseller if I'm not on Gateway yet?

Instructions are located on the Informtation Technology at UC Santa Barbara, website. Please log in to the website with your UCSBnetID and password, in order to view the Word document.

Standard, under a UC-System contract

Software that is available in the Software Favorites section of Gateway e-Procurement system:

  • Microsoft Products, including Windows and Office applications
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro (perpetual license - separate from the VIP Cloud Apps)

Standard, under a UC Santa Barbara contract

Software that is available from our Reseller and purchased via Gateway e-Procurement system:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud VIP products.

    You will need to log in with your UCSBnetID and pssword in order to see the documents.

Parallels Desktop

There are two options for purchasing this software.  ​You can purchase this from our reseller by requesting a quote for the version that you want. It is not a standard item that is listed on their website. You have to request a quote in order to purchase either version.

  1. A boxed version that is a single license with media. No free upgrade options.
  2. A license with maintenance and download key. The maintenance is for 1 year and entitles you to free upgrades when a new version is released during that year.

Filemaker Pro

Current versions are listed under the Software Favories in Gateway e-Procurement system. You may also request a quote for the version you would like to purchase, from our Reseller. Then, proceed with the purchase through Gateway e-Procurement system.

Software Depot Historical Information

The Software Depot order management system allowed for the purchase of many common software titles at academic discounts. The products offered through the Software Depot were coordinated through a single reseller, under an agreement negotiated by the UC-TAS group. Through collective volume across the UC, software was deeply discounted from off-the-shelf prices, for most standard software titles.
